I edit genre fiction on a project basis with a focus on contemporary romance and romantasy novels. I have edited for multiple self-published authors, including books that went on to be an indie success or earned traditional publishing deals.
My background as a professional editor of nonfiction for more than a decade grounds my technical knowledge regarding style and grammar, while my experience as a self-published genre fiction author who reads and studies the market extensively provides the foundation for my developmental edits. (Yes, I was also an English major!)
My edits include:
- Editorial and market research-based feedback
- Copy edits: editing for Chicago Manual of Style and maintaining/creating in-house stylesheet (includes light line editing)
- Dev edits: In-line manuscript edits and an overall manuscript evaluation
- Proofreading: In-line manuscript edits for grammar and typos
Developmental edits – .015 per word
Copy edits – .01 per word
Proofreading- .005 per word (does NOT include line editing or a stylesheet)
Contact me here to arrange a free sample edit (first chapter or first 10 pages). I require this step to ensure alignment on both sides.
“Alicia’s editorial feedback on my debut novel was invaluable. Her insight on the main characters and their motivations, along with notes on pacing and general edits, forced me to go deeper in my writing and create a more nuanced and layered story.” – Valerie Pepper, author of The Widow’s Guide
